The actual beneficiation processes adopted are deter-mined by the nature and physical properties of ores and gangue minerals,their mde of association with each otherthe method of exploiting the deposit and the end.use of thebeneficiated product,In small-scale mining operat ions,selective mining is supplemented by hand sorting wherebyferruginous or siliceous impurities like laterite, quartz,etc,are separated from bauxite with the help of megascopiccharacteristics like colour,texture, specific gravity, etc.In large-scale mechanised mining, the upgradation of r o,m.ore by simple manual dressing,sorting,screening and washingis not practicable,In such cases,mechanical beneficiationof the r,o,m,bauxite becomes inevitable particularly whenthe ore bly is mixed up with deleterious constituents. Themechan ical benefic iation methods for upgrading such bauxitecan only be effective if the impurities are easily liberatedfrom the ore by comminution.Metallurgical grade bauxitesare beneficiated by mechanical screening and washing.
